A Glorious Week in Ireland – Part 1

Finally!  A week off from work and school and time to really enjoy each other.  This was why we came to the UK.  To make memories and learn and explore Europe.  Most American kids (and adults) don’t get the opportunity to do what we are doing.  We have been making the most of our weekends and time since we moved here in July, but this was our first extended vacation.  We made the most of it.  There is too much to put in one post today, so I am going to put a little bit about each place we visited over the next few days and weeks.

For today, I want to tell you about the wonderful cottage we let for the week.   The Barn at Ballymacashen is owned by John and Carol Beers.  It was a labor of love for them as they converted the barn on their property into a lovely cottage with bedrooms on the ground floor (where the animals would have slept) and living area and kitchen on the first floor (known as the second floor in the USA).  I can’t say enough about how comfortable and cozy the Barn was and it really was in the perfect location for us as we spent a lot of time on the road and it was very centralized.  In addition, it is a self-catering (translated buy, bring, and cook your own food) rental, but the Beers made sure we were prepared for the following day providing milk, butter, and homemade wheaten bread.  So great!

The Barn is located about 30 minutes south of Belfast near the village of Killinchy and very close to the eastern coast of Northern Ireland.  Here is the website.  We found then on www.holidaylettings.co.uk.

More later about the places we visited and lots of pictures!
